There are some places that you can enjoy boat ride throughout Japan, but I definitely say Yanagawa boat ride is the most famous and popular one. You can enjoy the unique view and atmosphere from the boat and it must be one of the good memories during your stay in Japan. In addition to the boat ride, we will visit 2 different Japanese houses. One was a big architecture for the feudal load and another was a small house for a samurai retainer. Enjoy local tour and have fun.
At your hotel in Fukuoka city. (If you stay at a hotel around Fukuoka city and hope to pick up, please send me a message beforehand)
Pick you up at the hotel you are staying. We will move to Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station, Pick you up at the hotel you are staying and move to Yanagawa-city by Nishittestu train. It is about 1 hour ride to reach there from Fukuoka.
After arriving Yanagawa station, we will move to the pier, starting point of boat tour.
From the boat station near Yanagawa railway station, we will enjoy 70 minute boat tour about 4.5 km in length to the destination. Boat tour provides the different view and scenery. You can see many Japanese houses standing near the waterway, and water is closely related with the local people’s daily life. Passing through many low ceiling bridges is really fun, also you may have an opportunity to listen to some Japanese songs sung by a waterman during the boat tour.
After getting off the destination, we will visit ‘Ohana’ and ‘Shoto-en’. Ohana was a villa of Tachibana Family, a feudal load who ruled Yanagawa area. It provides a beautiful landscape garden named ‘Shoto-en’, a Western-style Seiyokan Annex and a Tachibana museum which houses splendid collections of antiques such as samurai’s armors, helmets, scroll paintings, other utensils that has been passed down through generations. If you hope, we will enjoy having lunch at a restaurant next to the garden.
At the end of this tour, we will visit ‘Toshima Family House’, which was a former samurai house built about 200 years ago. This tiny Japanese house with thatched roof and tatami mat rooms will take you back to the feudal ages of Japan and we can touch the history and lifestyle in the feudal ages of Japan.
Back to Yanagawa station, and move back to Fukuoka by Nishitetsu train.
End of the tour.
Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station
Yanagawa is well-known for Japanese as a water city of Japan because so many waterways run through the city. It is told that the total length of the waterway’s network reaches about 470km and it gives this city very unique figure and characteristics which is quite different from other cities.
Joining this tour, you can see & feel what Yanagawa city is like through the unique boat tour. Also Yanagawa has the history developed as the castle town in the feudal age, and it still remains the atmosphere of the old days. Visiting a small museum and former samurai residence will help you to understand the history of Japan.

Yoshiharu san is a very nice and experienced guide. Thank you!
Thank you very much for such a nice word. I am looking forward to working with you.
Yoshiharu is a very good guide. He was our guide in and around Nagasaki. He is very professional. Nagasaki is a very sobering experience and he made the tour very educational. Every step of our tour ran very smoothly. The timing was good with enough time to see the sights and still get to the next destination. All in all Yoshiharu is a very professional and personable guide. We can highly recommend him.

Spent 1.5 days with Yoshiharu early June. Displayed great knowledge of areas visited. Amended tour schedule to exclude areas I had visited on my first day. Very happy.
